Azlan Sharom is currently the Vice President, Corporate Services of Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), where he leads Human Resource and Administration, Legal, IT, Procurement, and the Transformation Management Office.

A seasoned professional with a distinguished career spanning education, stakeholder engagement, and organisational development, Azlan is a graduate in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from the University of Sheffield. He began his journey at Intel Technology in Penang, where he spent 13 years progressing from Process & Equipment Engineering to roles in Supply Chain Management and Public & Government Affairs.

His career trajectory reflects a deep commitment to national development and education. Azlan served the Government of Malaysia as a Communications Consultant at the National Economic Action Council, and later as Special Officer to the Minister of Higher Education, and again at the Ministry of Agriculture and Agro-Based Industry. In these roles, he led strategic media relations and stakeholder management initiatives, gaining invaluable insights into public sector administration and policy-making.

Azlan’s passion for human and organisational development was further cultivated during his tenure at Sapura Group, where he held senior leadership roles including Senior General Manager for Executive Support, and CEO of Sapura Smart School (now Asia Pacific Smart School). His leadership was instrumental in enhancing the school’s culture, operational practices, and stakeholder engagement.

He was subsequently appointed CEO of Yayasan AMIR, a foundation under Khazanah Nasional Berhad, where he spearheaded the pioneering Trust Schools Programme in partnership with the Ministry of Education. His efforts focused on driving cultural transformation among educators to elevate student learning experiences and outcomes across schools in Johor and Sarawak.

Returning to SapuraKencana Petroleum Berhad (later Sapura Energy Berhad), Azlan led stakeholder management and organisational development initiatives as part of a corporate-wide transformation programme.

Most recently, Azlan was Director of National Schools (Malaysia) at International Schools Partnership Limited, a global education group. He oversaw the development and operations of five private national curriculum schools across Penang, Perak, Selangor, and Johor, serving nearly 2,500 students.

Azlan also serves as Chairman of the Board of Trustees for Insan Siddiq Berhad, a non-profit organisation dedicated to cultivating future generations grounded in integrity, intellectual excellence, and becoming spiritually accomplished persons.
