UPDATED PHOTO REQUIREMENTS FOR eVISA/MyVisa APPLICATIONS

Greetings from the Expats Service Centre! 

Please be informed that the Immigration Department of Malaysia (JIM) has implemented enhanced validation requirements for applicant information and photographs submitted for Visa with Reference (VDR)/eVAL and online eVISA applications.   

In line with these requirements, companies are required to ensure that all applicant information submitted through the eXpats system is accurate, complete and consistent with the applicant’s passport and supporting documents. Companies must also ensure that the applicant’s photograph complies with the specifications prescribed for the eVISA/MyVisa system.  

Failure to comply with the required specifications may result in the photograph being rejected by the eVISA/MyVisa system after MDEC approval, which may prevent the applicant from proceeding with the eVISA application and endorsement process. 

Photo Requirements 

• Use a recent, clear and high-quality colour photograph of the applicant. 
• The applicant must face the camera directly, with the full face clearly visible and centred in the photograph. 
• The eyes and facial features must be clearly visible and must not be obstructed by hair, spectacles glare, headwear or other objects, except where worn for religious or medical reasons. 
• Use a plain background and ensure there are no shadows, patterns or other persons or objects visible in the photograph. 
• The photograph must not be blurred, pixelated, overexposed, underexposed, digitally altered or enhanced using filters. 
• For infants and young children, ensure that the child’s face is clearly visible, unobstructed and photographed against a plain background. 
• Ensure that the file format, dimensions and file size comply with the latest photo specification guide issued for eVISA/MyVisa applications. 

Important Reminder 

Companies are strongly advised to verify the photograph before submitting the application. Where a photograph is rejected, a new photograph that fully complies with the prescribed specifications should be prepared before the applicant retries the eVISA/MyVisa process.
