Further to MDEC’s announcement published on 26 December 2025, we wish to provide an update on the implementation of the policy on import duty and sales tax exemptions for the importation of multimedia/ICT equipment by MD companies undertaking data centre activities.
As previously announced, the policy update is intended to take effect from 1 January 2026 and applies only to MD companies involved in data centre activities. The relevant implementation procedures and detailed guidelines are currently being refined in consultation with the relevant Ministries. Accordingly, the operationalisation of the updated procedures is taking longer than initially anticipated.
MDEC understands the importance of timely guidance to support affected MD companies and will continue to work closely with the relevant Ministries to expedite the operationalisation of the updated procedures and guidelines.
